At a town hall Tuesday, Irondale residents heard the results of a feasibility study looking at breaking away from the Jefferson County Schools.

The U.S. Coast Guard took control of the site in June. On Friday, more than two dozen Coast Guard members became first to finish a Birmingham-based leadership course.

The $126.5 million deal, which closed Thursday, means thousands of active-duty enlisted personnel will come to Birmingham to train.

University officials in December informed the editors of Nineteen Fifty-Six and Alice magazines that the university was immediately stopping the magazines.
