![]() ![]() Charles Norman Mason's compositions have received numerous awards including a Premi Internacional de Composici Musical Ciutat de Tarragona Orchestra Music prize, a National Endowment of the Arts Individual Composers Grant, First Prize in the Atlanta Clarinet Association competition, a commission from the National Music Teachers Association, a Delius Prize, a Dale Warland Singers Commission Prize, a BMI Award for Young Composers, First Prize in the Panoply of the Arts competition, First Prize in the City Stages Classical Music competition, the International Bourges Electro-Acoustic Competition. Mason has held residencies in Alaska, Prague, New York, the Hambidge Center and the Seaside Institute in Seaside, Florida. Mason is founder of Living Artist Recordings, Executive Director of Living Music Foundation Inc., founder and past president of the Birmingham Art Music Alliance, and teaches composition at Birmingham-Southern College. He was composer-in-residence with the Goliard Ensemble (NY) and he has completed commissions from the Corona Guitar Kvartet (Denmark), the Fairbanks Symphony Association, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, the Onix Ensemble, and the Luna Nova Ensemble and from performers such as bassist Robert Black, Steinway artist William DeVan, and Metropolitan Opera soloist Mildred Allen. His works have been performed throughout the world including the Aspen Music Festival and are available on nine different compact discs.
