The Ackleys are 16 and 17 year olds and play like they have been a band for ten
years. The group got their start about two years ago. Originally the were an
all-female ensemble with Katie Crutchfield on guitar and vocals, Allison Crutchfield on drums, and their friend Carly on bass. After creative differences with the bass player, they asked Michael McClellen to join, about a year after the start. They played their first show this way, and then asked Carter Wilson to play drums. Allison
had played piano her whole life, so the transition from drums prooved simple.
In the Summer of 2005, The Ackleys recorded their first CD, on House of Love Records. The group's influences include Guided by Voices, The Velvet Underground, The Kinks, Fugazi and Rilo Kiley.
