25-year old Ali Shaheed Ibrahim Tawheed al Fodiwa fell in love with basketball and hip hop, but says he really found out about the meaning of life after converting to Islam in high school. Thanks to his mom, who made him write in a daily journal, Shaheed has written poetry and rhymes since he was a little boy. By the year 2000, Shaheed had branched out and met others who share his conviction. He and Rasul came together at Jumuah (a congregational prayer for Muslims) and they formed the group "The Unseen Ummah", which has been highly-regarded in Birmingham hip-hop circles. For the last few years, Shaheed has been honing in on his Muslim faith and learning more about the tenets that shape Islam in his life and he's writing music about it and sharing it with the world.
