Listen Now

Tom Godell90.3 WBHM | Birmingham -- Tom Godell was one of the first voices on 90.3 WBHM, when the station signed on the air more than 30 years ago. As a classical music announcer, Tom was charged with introducing music as well as interviewing symphony and guest performers and musicians who came through town. A few years after his stint in Birmingham, he moved on to other stations and is now the general manager at the public radio station in Lexington, Kentucky. As part of our year-long celebration of 30 years on-the-air, Godell talks to WBHM's Steve Chiotakis about the early days of public radio and what it was like to be in the studio when the switch was pulled and public radio in Birmingham came alive.
