90.3 WBHM Washington -- Mental illness and substance abuse often go hand-in-hand. Reports published in the Journal of the American Medical Association indicate that more than half of drug abusers also have at least one serious mental illness and of all people diagnosed as mentally ill, nearly a third abuse either alcohol or drugs. This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed sweeping new policies on methamphetamine enforcement. But as Laura Strickler reports from WBHM's Capitol Hill Bureau the vehicle for the meth legislation - the Patriot Act - faces a rough road in the Senate.
