Philip Habeeb

Philip Habeeb

Philip Habeeb, the program director for the Alabama Radio Reading Service, joined WBHM in October 2000.

A native of Birmingham, Philip spent his college years in Memphis, Tenn., and graduated from Rhodes College with a degree in anthropology and sociology. A passionate movie fan, Philip chose as his first job after college to work as a free-lance movie critic for the Birmingham Post-Herald. From there, he started doing free-lance work for advertising agencies and developed a career in advertising that gave him 15 awards from the American Advertising Federation, including five Addys and the award for Best Broadcast Copy in Birmingham two years in a row.

After six years in advertising, Philip felt a need to change gears, and spent the next eight years as a teacher, first as an English tacher at Highlands Day School and later as a substitute teacher at Pizitz Middle School. When the opportunity appeared to join the Alabama Radio Reading Service, Philip found it to be an excellent chance to combine two of his major interests, social service and broadcasting.

Philip and his wife Solange enjoy eating out and spending time with their dog (in fact, their son's dog) Spot, who has a generic name but is anything but a generic dog. You can reach Philip at 205-934-6576 or philip@wbhm.org.
