 WBHM Receives Six Alabama AP Awards The Associated Press announced today that Public Radio WBHM 90.3 FM/WSGN 91.5 FM has won a total of six Alabama Associated Press awards, the most of any radio station in the state. WBHM won the award for Best Web Journalism for its website www.wbhm.org. Contributors included WBHM News Director Tanya Ott and team members Andrew Yeager, Bradley George, Michael Krall, Larry Owen and Dan Carsen, who also reports for the Southern Education Desk. In addition, The Alabama Broadcasters Association awarded WBHM the 2012 Best in Broadcasting Judges Award of Merit for the "April 27th Tornadoes" and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama awarded Dan Carsen the 2012 Douglas L. Cannon Broadcast Journalism Award for his story "Polluted Schools." The same story also took a Second Place Award from the Education Writers Association's National Awards for Education Reporting. In addition to that, the NAER judging panel awarded Carsen a Special Citation for his story on Birmingham students being pepper-sprayed by police officers while at school. The Associated Press awards, given for work broadcast between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2011, were presented at a lunch March 24 in Birmingham. "We appreciate the recognition our team's work has received, and the support we receive from the community, which is what makes strong journalism possible."
