WBHM Public Radio

    WBHM is a listener-supported service of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. More than half of the station's financial support comes from listeners, with additional support from corporate underwriting and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). WBHM is "Your NPR News Station” and home to the Alabama Radio Reading Service, a resource for the blind and print-impaired. WBHM programming also can be heard in North Central Alabama on WSGN 91.5 FM through a partnership with Gadsden State University.

    Metro market public radio station WBHM 90.3 FM seeks general manager (GM) to plan, implement and direct all administrative, programming, technical operations and fundraising activities of the station, including budget, personnel, strategic planning, staffing and ensuring university compliance with FCC rules/regulations and Corporation for Public Broadcasting, National Public Radio, etc., requirements. The GM will represent the station and the university with a variety of internal and external constituencies.     Job Description
    Plan, implement and direct all administrative, programming, technical operations and fundraising activities of the station, including budget, personnel, strategic planning, staffing and ensuring university compliance with FCC rules/regulations and Corporation for Public Broadcasting, National Public Radio, etc. requirements. Represent the station and the university with a variety of internal and external constituencies.
    Annual Pay Range: $67,570 - $89,193 - $110,815
    Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Communications, Journalism or a related field and seven years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. The successful candidate will possess senior level management experience in a complex organization, preferably in public radio broadcasting.
    Preferred Job Skills: Leadership skills, administrative abilities, including the management of multi-faceted budgets and constituencies; in-depth knowledge of public broadcasting, audience research, best practices in all aspects of public radio; superior written and oral communication skills; comfortable working both in the limelight and behind the scenes; ability to multi-task is essential (with the ability to exhibit flexibility and consensus-building). Must have the temperament to lead a creative and diverse staff with the understanding that the responsibilities of this position are 24/7 and that the organization answers to numerous constituencies simultaneously.
